Carley & Matt: Featured on Style Unveiled

Paige wrote this post on July 29, 2010, It was posted in the Miscellaneous section.

A wedding planner herself, Carley and I quickly connected at our first meeting (sweet Matt scored all sorts of groom points, too).  We began planning their wedding at Venticello (where Adrienne and Evan were married in June) for April 2010, but they decided that the weather risks were too great.  In search of another fabulous venue, their search led them back to the San Luis Obispo area (they met at Cal Poly and their history began there).  After seeing Santa Margarita Ranch, they knew it was the perfect venue.  It offered a beautiful outdoor ceremony site and a huge classic barn for the reception.  Her ideas began to explode, and planning was underway.

To fast forward a bit, I was scheduled to fly home from a three month stay in London on April 15, plenty of time to get to SLO, meet with Carley and her vendors and finalize all the last minute details.  Low and behold a volcano erupted!  My flight was canceled and delayed to April 16, and then canceled again, rescheduled for the 18th, then canceled again, rescheduled again, canceled again, and over and over.  As confident as I was that I’d make it back in time, I began to worry that perhaps it wouldn’t actually happen.   Carley and I had been conferencing via Skype calls and had an active Plan B in place.   My little sister Tessa, who coincidentally knew Matt & Carley from college courses and still lived in SLO, would facilitate the wedding along with our fabulous designer Sonia, who would drive up from San Diego.

The Wednesday before the wedding, the airline told me that I wouldn’t be able to fly home until Monday, April 26.  Ugh.  It was unreal.  We moved forward with our Plan B, already underway, and I did what I could to assist the girls from afar.

On Thursday afternoon, I received a phone call from the airline, out of the blue.  They said they had seats open on Friday, April 23 for a flight back to San Francisco.  I would land at SFO at 1:00pm.  My brain kicked into high gear and I figured out that I could someway, somehow still make it to their wedding– but I decided to keep it hush, hush just in case there were any last minute tangles.

Sure enough, I landed Friday afternoon.  My dear friend Erin (and Paige One assistant) picked me up at the airport and we put the pedal to the metal to Santa Margarita!  We changed in the car and arrived at the venue around dinnertime.  When the moment was appropriate, I snuck into the barn and walked to Carley and Matt’s sweetheart table.  Carley’s eyes were larger than life and she said, “You’re not supposed to be here!  You should be in London!” and it was as if she’d seen a ghost!  It was a very exciting and emotional moment, seeing her in stunning gown and glowing all over, inside the beautifully decorated barn.  The four of us wedding girls were so thrilled to be there together on their wedding day.

Carley and Matt, your love was evident the first moment I met you, and we’re so honored to have been a small part of your wedding day!  You planned a gorgeous affair and I hope your married life is blissful!

New England Summer Holiday

Paige wrote this post on July 27, 2010, It was posted in the Miscellaneous section.

Happy Tuesday!

After two weeks of purely unplugged holiday, I’m back at my desk feeling refreshed and excited about the second half of wedding season!  During my road trip to Vermont and Maine, I took an abundance of photos and couldn’t resist putting a few of my favorite images in the blog today.

Vermont is as precious and timeless as you may imagine– rolling green fields, pastures filled with happy cows, quintessential covered bridges, antique shops, American flags hanging at each adorable Colonial-style home,”moose crossing” signs lining the highway, a whole lot of lakes, fireflies, summer camps, and all the quiet you could ever ask for– it quickly stole my heart!  The Land of Maple sure felt like home to my oversize sweet tooth; I ate maple ice cream, cotton candy, sugar, soda, tea, soft serve, hard candy, and well, anything maple I could get my sticky, sugary fingers on there!   Maine was picture-perfect as well and home to the best darn whoppie pies (well, and lobster of course)!

A big thank you to my dear friend Katie Kelley who planned our road trip and let us stay at her grandparents’ darling family cabin on Lake Champlain.  We laughed nonstop all day, everyday!  Thank you to my dad, too, for showing us an unforgettable time in Maine!  If you haven’t been to New England yet, you have to go!

And to my clients and readers, I can’t thank you enough for allowing me to unplug for two weeks.  I’ve never done something like this in my life, and wasn’t quite sure how it all would go.  As much as I love my business and the day-to-day duties, it was priceless to step away, relax and reflect.  Our lives are always going to be busy, and there will never be a perfect window of time to unplug, but I can’t recommend it enough.  Find a weekend, a few days, a week– whatever you can get your hands on– and escape.  Breathe, sleep, eat dessert for breakfast, and whatever makes your heart content.  There’s a lot of life whizzing by and you better catch it while you can!

Paige One ladies (Aimee, Sonia and Anna)– your hard work while I was away meant the world to me!  Much gratitude!

Enough from me; it’s time to get back to work!

Cheers!

Alternative Guest Book Ideas

sonia wrote this post on July 22, 2010, It was posted in the Miscellaneous section.

The dreaded guest book. Everyone wants something original but when it comes time to get the creative juices flowing for the guest book, your brain and ‘juice’ has worn you out and you could care less. Today are three cute guest book alternatives. You can find each seller on Etsy and they can modify the projects to fit your color scheme and personality.
I am in love with this butterfly guestbook (above and below) by Jaime Mancilla. Rather than having guests sign pages from a book, guests are asked to write their well wishes for the new couple on a butterfly and then adhere them to the wall to create a beautiful fluttery affect. You can save these notes in a keepsake box or frame them for your home office and display them on the walls.

For you puzzle lovers out there, send your favorite engagement photo to Customdogbananas and they will create a 12X24 custom wood jigsaw puzzle for your guests to sign the back of the puzzle pieces.

Finally, for those of you Martha Stewart gals out there who love a “good thing” the wedding guest book boxes from Justwrightboutigque are perfectly organized keepsakes. Not only can people write their well wishes for you but they can include their address/contact information and file them alphabetically…brilliant!

Hand Drawn Invitation {True Vintage Beauty}

aimee wrote this post on July 13, 2010, It was posted in the Miscellaneous section.

Sometime ago a co-worker of mine, Karen, was so sweet to share her wedding invitation with me. Every invitation is special in it’s own unique way, however, Karen and Karl’s invitation is one I could not resist sharing with you all. They did not pick their invitation out of a book nor was it printed by a printing company — their wedding  invitation was designed and hand drawn especially for them by Karl’s artistically talented mother, Shirley.  Check out every last exquisite and intricate detail she put into the design:

The details of the wedding were hand written by Shirley as well…

Although it’s beautiful just as it is, Karl’s color savvy sister, Rosie, also took part in customizing the invitations by creating the perfect color palette for the design. She hand colored every single last invitation with her kaleidoscope collection of colored pencils. Have a look at the stunning mini work of art:

Shirley and Rosie did an absolutely gorgeous job! Karen and Karl are so very lucky to have had their family dream up a wedding invitation as amazing as this.

Brides, if you have talented friends or family members, get them involved in designing your invitation. It’s one more detail that will make your wedding that much more special and you will be proud to show this piece off forever!

Thank you, Karen, for sharing your lovely invitation with us!

Unplugging

Paige wrote this post on July 12, 2010, It was posted in the Miscellaneous section.

Shh…can you hear it?  It’s complete and utter {unplugged} silence!

I’m away on a holiday during a gap between weddings, exploring the east coast.  For the first time ever, I’ve decided to truly unplug.  Although I’m writing this before leaving while I’m clearly not unplugged, I hope that each of you can find time to do the same this summer.

With the crazy lives we lead, we need to remember to sit back, relax, rejuvenate and enjoy the fruits of our labors.

Our darling assistant Anna will be checking my email {paige at paigeoneevents dot com} periodically, so don’t hesitate to drop her a line if you have any questions.  You can also email Sonia {sonia at paigeoneevents dot com} or Aimee {aimee at paigeoneevents dot com} anytime.

Looking forward to connecting with you and blogging again after July 26.

cheers,

paige
