I know you are all familiar with the amazing dessert bar designer/guru, Amy Atlas. Featured on Amy’s blog and Hostess of the Mostess, here is some eye candy from her Valentine’s Day dessert bar created for Better TV:
Host a couples valentine’s dinner party this year and show off your dessert bar! Yes, it takes a certain talent to dream up these mouthwatering designs, not to mention the best of the best dessert and pastry chefs on speed dial to help execute your vision, but believe me– you can do it, too! First and foremost, keep in mind that creating this should be a fun experience for you, and it is your unique dessert bar that everyone will love.
To get you started, here are a few tips to help you in creating your spread, guaranteed to wow your guests:
{Choose a theme and give your bar a name}
Amy’s theme was {love is the key to my heart}. When you have a theme, it’s easier to narrow down your brainstorming thoughts. Think of different design elements you’d like to focus on and give your bar a name! For example, if you decide on a heart theme, collect hearts in different shapes, sizes and colors. The same can be done with , x’s & o’s, arrows, etc., or you can be eclectic and mix them all up. There is no wrong way; use your imagination!
Red is the color of passion, pink the universal color of love; both synonymous of Valentines Day. Use white serving platters and allow your desserts and accent pieces to provide the pop of color.

{Finalize your confection menu}
Finalize the desserts you will be serving. Take into consideration flavors, colors, textures, sizes, and aesthetics when choosing your cakes, cookies, brownies, macarons (my fav), assorted candies, etc. Be creative and use your imagination, channel your inner oompah loompah =D
{Place your order in advance or bake a day before!}
I cannot stress this enough. Get your orders in to your favorite bakery at least a week ahead of time and at least three weeks during a busy holiday! Remember to bring photos or sketches of exactly what you expect from them. If your secret passion is to be a pastry chef yourself, and you are planning on baking up a storm, do this a day in advance. Then you won’t be placing the finishing touches right before your guests arrive!

{Accent Pieces}
Dress your dessert bar up with fresh flowers, stop by your local flower market such as the Columbia Road Flower Market Paige featured yesterday and choose flowers specific to your color palette. Print the name of the dessert you are serving on to a tent card and display it on the serving platter. Other accent ideas are favor boxes wrapped in coordinating ribbon filled with candy or a small gift, etc. These little accents personalize your dessert bar and make it that much sweeter!

Remember, have fun with this project! Here’s one last image to inspire you:

Happy dessert bar designing! Please share your creations with us!
